Rupert Shaw and his beloved 1970 DBS Vantage

This month features Rupert Shaw, a Major in the army.

"In 2000 I was serving abroad and had some money saved so I decided to treat myself to a Big British GT on the provision that it had four proper seats. So I researched TVRs, Bristols and Astons."

News

Aston Workshop is officially the coolest!

We know that Aston Martin is the coolest brand in the UK but now our new-look e-newsletter, the Living Legend is too. It has just been voted the best on Campaign Monitor which review e-newsletters on a global scale.

Here’s what they said: “Aston Martin’s are beautiful cars, and the Aston Workshop specialises in them, so their newsletter needed to reflect that. The newsletter design has a real feeling of luxury through the use of photography, type and colour.

We particularly like the photos combined with section headings; it ties the whole design together. The bottom of the right column is also a nice call to action to visit the website.

Well done Uniquethinking PR and onebestway design.

Q & A

Q: What does an Aston Workshop inspection service involve?

A: We are always happy to inspect your car whether you are buying, selling or just maintaining an existing Aston Martin.

We provide an honest, informed and impartial report and offer health condition assessments on customers’ cars should they bring their Aston Martin to be serviced with us, at no extra cost. We would always advise a prospective buyer of an Aston Martin to have an independent inspection, unless they have been a long term Aston Martin owner and know all the problem areas that may be encountered.

The cost of unforeseen work can be high and it is important that the price asked reflects the cost of rectifying any significant defects and problems that may be present. An inspection carried out by ourselves brings a level of general knowledge and experience which can be invaluable in highlighting these defects or corrosion problems that typically arise over time.

Our Tariff for undertaking this inspection service is as follows:

  • Health Report – this covers a general structural assessment (but does not include any dismantling to investigate potential problem areas), general mechanical assessment , including engine compression test and brief road test, and a general cosmetic condition assessment covering paint and trim. We would need the car for the day: The basic cost for this service , if undertaken at Aston Workshop will be £250 plus VAT. We may be able to offer an offsite service but would prefer we undertook the inspection with us.
  • Full Inspection – this covers a detailed structural assessment (which includes removal of sill embellishers etc and use of endoscopes to assess sill condition , provided we have the Vendors permission ), a detailed mechanical assessment covering engine transmission suspension etc, a full set of functional checks and an extended road test and report . The written report will also include a general cosmetic assessment covering paint and trim and would typically take a full day to do The cost for this inspection will be £650 plus VAT.

We can always arrange transport if it is not possible for the car to be delivered to us, provided we have sufficient notice.

We know of no better way to start your Aston Martin ownership than with the peace of mind that comes with knowing of any expected problems and what it is likely to require to rectify. Such information is also useful in any Vendor negotiations.

Finally, while we will honestly report on what we see, we cannot reasonably be held accountable for any defects that may arise subsequent to the actual inspection, or for the condition or function of any components or structure which it has not been possible to fully inspect.
