Welcome to the latest edition of Living Legends, the e-newsletter from the Aston Workshop.
First on the agenda and launched only last year, our parts website has seen sales increase by 75% due to the comprehensive range of parts on offer and the high level of customer service the Aston workshop offers, often sourcing bespoke parts for our clients.
www.astonparts.com is our website where Aston owners can purchase any part online for most Aston Martin models from pre-war Astons to the latest models. The website stocks a number of previously unavailable items, with some of these parts being specially manufactured by the original supplier where possible. We are also able to arrange manufacture of special order parts according to the original specifications.

We only stock genuine Aston Martin parts unless otherwise indicated and all customers are able to rely on the Aston Workshop’s specialist advice should they have problems with their vehicles. All transactions are handled through the secure Aston Workshop website and can be shipped internationally.
The site is easy to use and can be searched either by using the part number or the model and system type. High demand parts are listed by image to avoid confusion and help recognition. We aim to expand the database so that eventually all parts are catalogued with an image.
As well as parts we sell a range of gifts and clothing on the site, including a range of Anthony Holt silver accessories. This includes a selection of silver cuff links, tie pins and limited edition solid silver Aston Martin models which can be personalised with a unique number plate, engine and chassis number. We have strived to make the website for the Aston Workshop a hub for all things Aston, whether it be repairs, parts or accessories. As part of this Aston hub, we have launched a new site for our crash repair service. The £500,000 state-of-the-art paint and body centre means we are all set to repair and restore crash damaged Aston Martins back to their outstanding glory.
The crash repair site means that you can check out our facilities before you bring your Aston in. The site is full of pictures and descriptions of the service that the crash repair caters for so whether it’s a simple health check and service, to a part or full restoration – the Aston workshop is equipped.
Also part of the Aston Workshop website is Aston Art which specialises in stunning photography of what any Aston Martin lover will argue are the most iconic cars in British history. The site features specialist artists showcasing their work in the online gallery. Here, moody and atmospheric images meet lazy Sunday drives, with one focal point; the Aston Martin. Anyone wishing to purchase a photograph can choose from a range of frames and finishes.
Please check out the sites at www.aston.co.uk, we continually strive to make this the best service for all things Aston.

Question:
Can a modern fully synthetic engine oil be used in a classic era Aston Martin and if so what are the benefits?
Answer:
We have reached the time of year when many owners are reawakening their cars in anticipation of the summer motoring months ahead. One of the questions many ask when servicing their car ahead of this time is should they specify the use of fully synthetic oils, and do the benefits justify the additional cost?
The first point is that a traditional mineral based multigrade oil, examples of which include Duckams 20/50W and Millers classic oil (also 20/50W) and their Castrol oil equivalents remain fully fit for the purpose.
Provided they are changed twice per year or after 3000 miles (5000kms), these oils will continue to provide good results as they were the type of oil that the engine was designed to be used with.
Use of relatively low detergent oil such as these is also important when an engine has already had considerable service. This is because a more modern high detergent oil will wash away the carbon deposits around piston rings and bearing journals with a consequent increase in oil consumption and lowering of oil pressure.
Semi-synthetic oils have a wide acceptance in the general car service market. They have a higher oil stability (though not as good as that with a fully synthetic oil), improved lubricity and a higher viscosity stability over time. (more...)
