2nd Prize Maltese Grand Prix

An astounding weekend of Classic Cars of all makes and types, taking part in
Hillclimb, Concours d’Elegance, Displays, and closed Public Roads Racing.

The Concours d’Elegance show cased in the Silent City of Mdina.
A beautiful setting for Malta based and international cars, to be shown to the public and visitors to Malta.

Approximately 80 cars displayed, pre-war to mid-sixties saloons and sports cars.

The Classic GP on closed public roads around the walled city of Mdina, a 2 km road circuit of single
rural road, dual carriageway with two chicane’s and a rural hill climb through the citrus gardens.

Aston Workshop had a good showing with one of our clients cars, the DB6 Roadster of Ron Powell,
supported by Aston Workshop Manager John Grey, David Parvin & Brett Cooper.

Thursday -  The Thomas-Smith Mellieha Hillclimb Event, due to unprecedented rain on the Wednesday 1st
October, had to be called off for safety reasons.

Friday - The Sun was shining, and not daunted in any way, the Concours d’Elegance sponsored by Mdina
Glass, was a highly contested event with scores of visitors filling the city squares of Mdina.

The Classic GP sponsored by Mdina Glass.
Saturday morning practice laps, afternoon timed laps.
Classes were made up of engine capacity, race groups were made up of ‘times of 3 Laps’ average.
The DB6R was second in class of 8 Cars, that included Jaguar C Types, D Type, XK150, & E Type.

Sunday - Classic GP race day.
7 groups of races, 8 cars to a pack, plus 1 group titled the LeMans Group.
The LeMans Group was made up of Maserati Cooper, Turner Sports, Aston Martin DB6R, Jaguar C Type’s
& D Type, XK150, & an E type.
Even a LeMans type start!
All be it ‘start and then stop’ at first Marshall’s Flag to check Belts & Helmets ….
Safety was always paramount.

The writer cannot describe the action …. To be among these cars at such an event, and allowed to blast
around this beautiful city waved on by spectators and marshals is beyond description.
