Further Information

This is the model with which Aston renewed its association with one of Italy's most illustrious carrozzerie, the latter having been responsible for that most celebrated and desirable of all post-war Aston Martins, the DB4GT Zagato. It's hard to imagine the media frenzy surrounding the launch of these very special Aston Martins. With styling reminiscent of a 'concept' brought to life, its easy to see why they became the must have car for collectors and celebrities (including Aston aficionado Rowan Atkinson) of the day. The coupes were in such high demand that when the even rarer convertible was announced it attracted a premium above the asking price for those desperate to add this incredible thoroughbred to their stable. After a limited production of 50 Zagato Coupés, Zagato started an even smaller run of Volante convertibles. These had the same basic body shape as the Coupe, albeit with a non-vantage spec engine and a new grill cover. The project was reminiscent of the lightweight DB4GT Zagato, a 1960s race car that was meant to challenge Ferrari at the top level of sports car racing. Like its classic counterpart, the modern V8 Vantage Zagato was reduced in overall size and received an updated aluminum body from Italy. Much like the DB4, the chassis was shortened and the rear seats removed. The engine was reworked to produce 432 bhp and offered a top speed of 300 kph. The first Zagato Volante appeared at the 1987 Geneva Motor Show with a different front grill and headlight covers (as on this example). Bosch fuel injection was fitted which provided enough clearance such that the large bulge on the Coupé's hood wasn't necessary. Only 37 Volante Zagato were ever produced, 12 of those in right-hand drive and fewer still with the desirable, Manual transmission. This particular car was the first such model delivered by Aston Martin and has clearly been cherished ever since. It looks fantastic in Chichester Blue with Mushroom Hide and matching hood. It comes complete with Service history, Owner's handbook and extensive history folder including, bills, photographic records, MOTs, V5s, Tax discs etc. A fast appreciating classic, we are finding that this era of Aston Martin production is now becoming highly sought after by collectors and very rare models such as this even more so.
