Fitment: DB4, DB5, DB6, DB6 MK2, DBS, V8

Heritage Aston Martins were often available with both manual or automatic gearbox options, however in an era where manual transmissions were considered the standard finding automatic DB4s, DB5s and DB6s is always a tricky task. V8 engined cars were commonly found with automatic transmissions in period but those transmissions are often limited by their ill-suited ratios and poor responses to throttle inputs.

Aston Workshop have long been carrying out modern automatic gearbox conversions for classic Aston Martins, and as such have developed a series of simple packages that can update the drive of a heritage Aston while maintaining the character of the car. 

For DB4, DB5, and DB6 models:

• Original Borg Warner 3-speed - When maintaining originality is of the utmost importance we can source and fit an original Borg Warner 3-speed automatic gearbox to your car, as found on DB5 and DB6 (and very occasionally as a factory fit to DB4).
• Modern Aston Workshop 4-speed - The ultimate upgrade for DB4, DB5, DB6 and DBS is to use the Aston Workshop Modern 4-speed automatic transmission offering smoother changes between ratios and better utilisation of power and torque available from the engine.

For DBS V8 and V8 models:

• Original TorqueFlite 3-speed - Aston Workshop are able to source, and often have in stock, an original Chrysler TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, ideal for when originality is an important consideration for your Aston Martin.
• Modern Aston Workshop 4-speed - Suitable for standard V8s, our 4-speed modern automatic gearbox can be utilised. For higher power engines, such as an original V8 vantage or one of our Evolution 6.0 V8s, we would recommend our 6-speed auto option.
• Modern Aston Workshop 6-speed - For V8 engined Aston Martins of the 70s and 80s our modern 6-speed transmission is the ultimate automatic upgrade available. Similar in operation to the Touchtronic transmissions found on modern Astons, our 6-speed automatic gearbox can be driven in traditional 'auto' mode or on a 'manual' mode with up and down buttons to change gear. Offering cleaner, crisper shifts and a far more efficient power transfer to the road than the original gearboxes, our 6-speed auto requires no material modification to the car and is fully reversible.
