Along with the engine and transmission, the differential is one of the three key components in a classic Astons powertrain. With a surprisingly large number of options available from the Aston Martin factory, and changes to the standard setup throughout the lifespan of each individual model, Aston Workshop have a wealth of experience and reference material to keep track of the available final drive ratios and differential options.

We're able to carry out a number of enhancements to the differentials of heritage Aston Martins:

Overhaul

Either by overhauling your current unit, or by fitting an overhauled differential on an exchange basis, Aston Workshop can ensure the peace of mind that only a fully serviced differential can provide. Your diff will be fully stripped, cleaned and inspected to check for any damage or potential weaknesses. Reassembly will be carried out with the original parts, or modern replacements if needed/specified, before a full testing regime and fitment to your car. Overhauled differentials ensure that the originality of your Aston is protected, while increasing the reliability of your car in the future.

Final Drive Ratios

Most classic Aston Martin models had a range of final drive ratios available, as well as different ratios for manual and automatic gearboxes. With a variation in fuel economy, acceleration and top speed depending on which final drive is fitted, there is a growing desire from owners to fine tune their ratio to match the character of car they are aiming to achieve. We can adjust your differential to match any of the original available ratios, and even (if desired) select any other ratio as per your specification.

Limited Slip Differential

All Astons from DB4 onwards were offered with a limited slip differential, initially as an optional extra and later as standard equipment. For owners wanting to improve their rear differential, we can either source and fit an original 'Powr-Lok' LSD or fit upgraded internals to your current differential casing.
