While some of the more traditional aspects of a classic Aston Martin are part of the charm of a classic car, the feel of a 1950's or 1960's manual transmission can often leave a lot to be desired. Whether a David Brown 4-speed or later ZF 5-speed, the manual gearboxes used in DB4, DB5 and DB6 are certainly products of the era they were created in.

Aston Workshop have long been carrying out modern manual gearbox conversions for classic Aston Martins, and as such have developed a series of simple packages that can update the drive of a heritage Aston while maintaining the character of the car. 

For DB2, DB2/4, DB2/4 MkII and DB MkII models:

• Modern Aston Workshop 5-Speed - A bespoke unit that we fit to DB2, DB2/4, DB2/4 MkII and DB MkII models. The addition of a fifth ratio ensures this modern transmission offers a more refined shift and smoother driving at higher speeds.

For DB4, DB5, DB6 and DBS models:

• Original David Brown 4-speed Overdrive - When maintaining originality is of the utmost importance we can source and fit an original overdrive unit to your David Brown 4-speed gearbox.
• Original ZF 5-Speed - Enhance your 4-speed equipped DB4 or DB5 with the original ZF 5-speed unit, improving usability and maintaining originality.
• Modern Aston Workshop 5-speed - The ultimate upgrade for DB4, DB5, DB6 and DBS is to use the Aston Workshop Modern 5-speed transmission offering crisper, more precise gear changes and better performance at all speeds.
• DBS ZF 'Dog-Leg' 5-Speed - Aston Workshop are able to source, and often have in stock, the rare 'Dog-Leg' 5-speed gearbox offered in period. 

For DBS V8 and V8 models:

• Modern Aston Workshop 6-speed - The AW modern 6-speed transmission is one of our most popular enhancements for V8 powered models. A far more modern unit than the original manual transmission, our gearbox upgrade offers a better shift when driven fast and a better drive at motorway speeds.
