Wire wheels may be a rarity on modern roads, but they’re an important part of the charm and style of a classic Aston Martin. In period, Aston Martin, like most other manufacturers, used steel wire wheels. As standard these were often painted, although ‘Chrome Roadwheels’ is commonly listed as an optional extra on original build sheets. Whether painted or chrome finished, original wheels rarely stand up to the test of time; unsightly corrosion is not only an eyesore but potentially quite dangerous as the strength of the wheel is affected.

Aston Workshop have a range of wire wheels available for all classic Aston Martin models:

  • Stainless Steel Wire Wheels – our recommended standard fitment for classic Aston Martins are modern stainless steel wire wheels. As visually impressive as the original wheels, yet more resistant to corrosion, stainless steel wheels have become the standard for our world class restorations.
  • Turrino Alloy Wire Wheels – a step up over stainless steel wheels, alloy wheels from Turrino are the finest in British-made modern wire wheels. Lighter and more corrosion resistance than steel wheels, alloy wire wheels look better than original Steel wheels for longer while also giving a performance benefit through the reduction of unsprung weight.
  • Borrani Alloy Wire Wheels – another alloy wheel option, Borrani wheels were standard fitment on the DB4 GT and DB4 GT Zagato in period. Borrani wheels offer the same benefits of Turrino wheels, however with their history as the race-wheel of choice in the 1960s they bring a certain kudos to your classic Aston.

Upgrading to wire wheels built with more modern materials and construction processes also allows for a change in wheel size. Diameter, width and offset can all be adjusted to provide the fitment and performance to suit your car. Contact us for more information on the pros and cons of changing your wheel size.
