Beverly and I are home in San Francisco after a wonderful trip.  After our delightful drive around England and Wales in our oh-so-beautiful DB4, we went to visit in Corfu.

I can only try to express here our thanks to you and all at the Workshop for the marvellous pleasure we had in the Aston Martin.  There was never a hiccup and we felt as though we had just bought it from the show-room floor.  Of course everywhere we went people oohed and aahed, and we always explained that without the Aston Workshop it would be impossible to enjoy a car like ours.  Your pick up and delivery service made all the difference.  I'm sure we are not the first clients to tell you that Durham could be a little closer to the centre of things!  But we have come to trust you service totally.

We did have one little problem.  At a rather awkward parking area at a hotel in Wales I did my best to find a place away from the barbarians, but in the morning sure enough, someone had opened their door into the side of my Super Leggera and left a super hollow/dent.  My hope is that with the modern suction cup methods you may be able to remove it as it did not seem to break the paint.  Your driver in the Pick-Up service truck pointed out to me that there is a tiny ding, with paint missing, on the driver door also, but frankly I could hardly see it and have no idea when it arrived.

I also mentioned that it would be wonderful if somehow the fuel "cap" closure could make a tighter seal.  I think maybe an additional layer of soft material over the rubber disk might make it tighter and yet still allow the cover to close.

I hope you will pass my "thank yous" along to Bob and all the others who have made this dream come true for us.  We feel as though we have an Aston Martin family connection.  You may know that my Father bought the car in Paris from the floor of the Paris Auto Show, and loved it dearly.  I often think of him as I drive along on a back road in England, "what a thrill it would be for him to see me enjoying it as though it were new again".

From the moment that you walk through the door of the main showroom at Aston Workshop, it is strikingly clear that you are entering a place where nothing less than the very highest level of excellence will do.

We were warmly greeted by Caren, Laura and Paul, who offered us refreshments and invited us to take as much time as we wanted to admire the stunning array of immaculately presented Classic Aston Martin motorcars on display.

The entire party were thrilled and overwhelmed to be in the presence of so many beautifully restored, fully functioning Astons.

The team at Aston Workshop were extremely friendly, and allowed us to view the cars at our leisure, giving us the chance to absorb the whole wonderful experience, completely hassle free.

After an hour or so of Aston admiration in the showroom, we were fortunate enough to be given a personal guided tour of the restoration workshops, by Brian, one of Aston Workshops in-house experts and leading authorities on Aston Martins.

Brian kindly donated a couple of hours of his time to answer any questions that were presented to him. We were shown the full workshop facilities, and had the various processes explained to us.

Brian was extremely helpful, and impressed everyone in the group with his knowledge, expertise, and friendly manner. Thank you Brian!

The dedication, skill, patience and expert craftsmanship displayed by the engineers undertaking the work on the cars was a sight to behold. It is reassuring to know that this great British marque, a paragon of excellence, is in such skilled and dedicated hands.

To top it all off, we had lunch in the on-site pub, The Black Horse.

The food and drink were excellent and the staff were very friendly.

Everyone left feeling very happy, inspired, and tremendously proud of the fantastic British Legend that is; Aston Martin.

"Good morning Paul,

Gerard returned last night and left the car with me to clean etc. He has asked me to convey to you his sincerest gratitiude for all that you did for him and his wife when they were there. To say that he was blown away by the experience would be an understatement and the following week in Scotland and around the UK was also excellent, the car never missed a beat despite at one point being stuck in a huge traffic jam in Glasgow for over 3 hours!

He has mentioned a small problem of noise / vibration from the rear axle at about 85-95 mph which disappears over 95 I will try the car out over the next couple of days and report back to you.

Other than that a great time was had by all.

I believe I have already sent you an email indicating where we want the car registered to , as soon as we have that we can get the car properly insured .

Afternoon Paul, I just wanted to send an e-mail to let you know how wonderfully well the Aston performed on its recent journey to the south of France. The car was set up superbly and I want to take this opportunity to thank Mick Durrant for his work in making the car such a pleasure to drive – it was incredibly responsive and provided a quite wonderful soundtrack – in fact there were times when I wondered whether I really needed a radio in the car because the raw power and kick down is just pure pleasure to listen to. The car looked magnificent and rightly received some admiring glances in the UK, but even more in France. Quite regularly, cars would speed up to take a prolonged look at the car and I lost count of how many phones were pointed at the car to take pictures. By the time I got to Le Mans, things reached ridiculous levels. To get to the campsite you have to drive through a couple of sections where fans line the street to admire the cars that fellow Le Mans fans bring. I approached a throng who applauded the arrival of the Aston and one man kneeled on the road in front of me – all very bizarre. On the campsite the Aston was regularly photographed and the French were very keen to learn more – all they kept saying was “We love Aston Marteeen”. One man had heard that the engineer put their name on the engine when it was built so when I showed him Mick Wilson’s plate he was heartily impressed. On the journey which followed to the southern French coast there were admiring glances at the car from many people – including the gendarmerie! I lost count of how many people did a double-take. Throughout the week or so I was away, the car started first time every time and I’m ashamed to say that the only time when I thought things were going wrong it was the fault of yours truly – I’ve become so used to modern cars with engine management systems that when the temperature dials started rising I feared the worst but actually it was perfectly normal. B119 WWT is a truly wonderful car to drive and I feel that after 2000 miles I have a much greater understanding of what the car can do and why it is such a pleasure to own. Without question, the vehicle is a credit to the Workshop and to the work you have all done to make it as enduring to drive as it is to look at. Dear Clive. It was a pleasure to feature the Aston Martin DB5, registration number GGW 2C, on the cover of Octane magazine last month. The car is absolutely stunning and it was a joy to drive for the duration of the test feature. I was not aware that your Aston Workshop undertook the comprehensive restoration of this car in 2002 nor that you looked after it up until 2006. Having now seen the detailed photographs of the restoration work you undertook it is clear that this Aston's superb level of finish is very much as a result of your firms work. An excellent job. The exterior panels, panel gaps and surfaces are absolutely flawless and, as quoted in the article, 'things just get better inside.' Seldom have I experienced such a beautifully trimmed and finished interior. As well as looking outstanding the DB5 behaved impeccably throughout the day and it proved to be fantastic to drive on the motorways as well as on the fast country roads. As mentioned in the feature, this is undoubtedly one of the Best Aston Martins In The World! And sorry I messed up and wrote that it has a 4-speed gearbox. Hi Paul, Just a few lines to tell you that I took out the E on Sunday for its first expedition.
I can't tell you enough how pleased I am with the beast, and would like to take this opportunity to thank all at Aston Workshop for a restoration that surely cannot be bettered.
I had trouble getting out of the petrol station at the start of the run, there were that many guys taking photos of it. The old chap ( 91years) that I ride the classic bikes with, has a mate that worked on the E-Type production line for most of its run, and says he does not remember any of the cars leaving the factory in that sort of condition, which has got to be the ultimate compliment to you all. But just one thing Paul, before your head swells so your hat doesn't fit,----I found out why we had trouble in starting the car in order to get it off the transporter, someone, would you believe, had syphoned all the petrol out of the tank. They must have done because you surely would not have forgotten to fill it up would you? Perhaps we can settle this with a couple of beers when I come out on the 17th of next month. Dear Bob and Dear John, I just came back from my trip to Italy where I drove the Mille Miglia route from Brescia to Rome and back. As a non-official participant I was able to fully use the potential of the Aston and I am happy to say that the car drove fantastic and never missed a beat. Furthermore the road handling was excellent and me and my friend Hans really enjoyed the car. I think this is a compliment to The Aston Workshop and the team that build my car. Paul, Just dropping you a short e.mail to thank you and the whole team for doing such a great job on my car. The engine ran beautifully all the way down to London (we almost got home on a tank of petrol) and the car looked fantastic (especially the wire wheels); We had many admirers. We had a great drive until we hit Friday evening rush hour traffic around the M25. It has been a pleasure buying a car from a team of people who are so obviously passionate and knowledgeable about what you do and the way the car was presented and ran was evidence of that. Paul, That's great, thanks for those. After the slight scare, we had a great trip around the Borders at the weekend and the car didn't miss a beat. The car is superb, an exceptional example. The previous owners have really looked after it well. I'll get the fuel gauge checked out though, as I'm pretty sure it wasn't reading empty when it ran out. It might be worth asking Nigel if he was aware of the gauge reading high or perhaps sticking? It seems to read correctly between full and half tank, but I didn't dare test it any lower on the way home! I'll take a can of fuel out with me and run the tank down again and see when it runs out. Your bodywork guys did a great job on those little paint touch ups too thanks. I had another good look round the car last night and its completely spotless. All the best, Pete.
