Further Information

1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Constantly improved during their five year production span, the DB4 saw a number of minor series changes culminating in the Series V. The more sought after Series V cars were built to Vantage specification (as here) and differed from earlier series in that their wheelbase was increased some 3 1/2 inches in length to provide greater cabin comfort and a higher roofline to accommodate taller drivers. Further improvements included the adoption of the DB4 GT style dashboard and 15inch wire wheels. Vantage engine specification gave another 25bhp with triple SU carburettors amongst other tweaks and the faired headlights from the DB4 GT were adopted. This particular DB4 went into restoration and race preparation in 1987 and was inspected and approved for its FIA historic papers in June 1989. Built up by Ian Moss, it became an extremely well- known car on the historic racing circuit due to its remarkable success. The car has been so successful in fact that it surprises many people to know that the engine is to original 3670cc specification. The engine is converted to a full-flow oil system with twin nose-mounted coolers and it registers 50 psi even when hot. This lovely example has been driven in both English and continental events including Spa and Dijon. It also has a comprehensive UK competition history between 1988 and 1992 including: 1989 1st AMOC Thoroughbred Championship. 1990 2nd AMOC Thoroughbred Championship. 1991 2nd Chapman Warren Championship Class C. 1992 1st Chapman Warren Championship Class C. 1992 Overall Winner Chapman Warren Championship. The car has also been used for historic road events including a starring role in the "Italian Job" commemorative rally. Finished in iconic Silver Birch with Black interior, there is no questioning the similarity to the cars used by EON Productions when making the early Bond movies. What some of you may not know, is that when the famous “DB5” made its first appearance in Goldfinger, it was in fact a DB4 Series V Vantage, (the DB5 wasn’t ready in time) making the car we have for sale as close as you can get to the actual Bond classic! With only 49 DB4 series V models ever produced, this is undoubtedly a rare DB4 of real significance, a thoroughbred with a fantastic racing heritage, but one that can also be enjoyed on the open road! Complete with an extremely comprehensive history file and highly desirable registration number, it represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to own an Aston Martin with a genuine racing history that can be enjoyed ‘on the track’ or ‘day to day’ for generations to come.
