Often billed as the “most famous car in the world”, James Bond’s gadget-laden Silver Birch DB5 in Goldfinger became many a schoolboy’s dream.

Regarded by many as the most beautiful Aston Martin produced, DB5 shares many similar traits to DB4. However, DB5’s most substantial change occurred under the bonnet. The engine capacity was enlarged to 4 litres by increasing the bore to 96mm. The car had three SU carburettors, as fitted to the outgoing DB4 Vantage, and also shared the latter’s flared in headlamps. Significant too was the introduction of a full synchromesh ZF 5-speed gearbox.

Compared to DB4, chassis changes included the adoption of the Girling disc brakes that had only been used on DB4GT, along with 15” wheels. Many other improvements were incorporated including electric windows and twin hydraulic brake servos.

Standard equipment on the DB5 included reclining seats, wool pile carpets, electric windows, twin fuel tanks, chrome wire wheels, an oil cooler, a magnesium-alloy body built to Superleggera patent technique, full leather trim in the cabin and even a fire extinguisher. All models have two doors and are of a 2+2 configuration. The boot lids differed slightly between the DB4 mark 5 and the DB5.

This particular DB5 left the factory in April 1964 in Sierra Blue with Grey Leather trim extras included were Limited Slip Differential, Two Marchal Fog Lights, Heated Rear Screen, Two Britax Safety Belts, Three Ear Hub Caps, Motorola Radio, Power Operated Aerial and Increased Thickness of Drivers Seat Cushion Padding by One Inch.

Over the years this car has had several colour changes by its previous owners and is currently finished in Pacific Blue exterior with Grey leather interior, showing 15,778 miles on the clock this DB5 is in great condition and is ready to be driven and enjoyed by a new custodian. The car comes with an extensive history file documenting several chapters of its life including the original build sheet, photos and receipts from starting its life here in the UK then spreading its wings to North America, Japan then back home to the UK.

Available upgrades while eminently usable in her present state, this car can be readily modified and upgraded as may be desired. Changes from RHD to LHD, engine and suspension upgrades are all possible and cost-effective. A full-colour change can be made if the new owner desires. We will be glad to quote an all-inclusive price for purchase and upgrade as may be requested by the prospective purchaser.
