Further Information

Owned for many years by an Aston Martin Owners Club member, this lovely and original DB5 is ready for immediate use. There are many but highly desirable and sympathetic upgrades and ample evidence of full and meticulous maintenance. It is a car that wants for nothing. The car has an excellent, comprehensive history going back many years. Colour is Silver Birch with an original dark blue leather interior. New Wilton dark blue carpets have been fitted. The car comes with the standard manual 5-speed ZF gearbox and with Power Assisted Steering and the engine has been fully rebuilt to 4.2 litres. The DB5 was announced in October 1963 at the Earls Court Motor show. The final development of the Series 5 DB4 introduced many of the features found later in the DB5, including the revised roofline and enlarged boot. The engine was enlarged to 4 litres by increasing the cylinder bore and the Vantage engine with triple SU carburettors became the standard engine specification. While early DB5s came with the same David Brown 4 speed gearbox, this was soon superseded with the introduction of a ZF 5-speed gearbox, revised final drive ratio, 4 wheel Girling disc brakes with twin servos, adjustable Selectaride rear dampers and an alternator. The DB5 was described by contemporary road testers, as a car “that defies definition with many widely differing characters, that is always tailored to one’s mood of the movement”. Capable of effortless high performance, quiet and refined, yet with a most satisfying and mellifluous snarl as the mood takes one. Elegant, rare, and with impeccable breeding, it is the epitome of all that was most elegant in its time, with that unmistakable British character, yet with the design flair of the very best of Italian styling. “It is a car which challenges and satisfies and always excites”. This DB5 was built in 1965 It has a highly desirable modern Air Conditioning system and alarm/immobiliser fitted. The engine was fully rebuilt to 4.2 litre specification with fast road camshafts and fitted with an upgraded cooling system and full bore GT Stainless steel exhaust in 2006. At the same time the gearbox was fully overhauled. She was given a full bare metal respray to a high standard in 2004, which included a full chassis rebuild and new aluminium fuel tank. The suspension and brakes were also fully rebuilt and upgraded with the Aston Workshop Monte Carlo handling kit and the rear axle overhauled at the same time and power-assisted steering fitted. The car remains in excellent structural condition. There are few bodywork defects and such as there are, are entirely cosmetic. Structurally and mechanically in excellent condition, it has been given a comprehensive Health Check report that will be available to the purchaser. This car behaves on the road, as a well-sorted DB5 should. It is an ideal car for the owner, who, while not looking for absolute perfection, wants a reliable but highly presentable car that can be used immediately with complete confidence. She will be a constant source of delight and is available at a significant discount to the price of a completely restored DB5. Highly recommended. The car can be readily converted to LHD if desired.
