Further Information

A very rare opportunity to own one of the earliest Aston Martin motor show cars, this particular MkII Long Chassis Tourer has documentation confirming its inclusion in the Earls Court Motor Show of 1935. One of just 148 MkII models produced, this is one of the ultra-rare models with the cut-away drivers door. Despite such a distinguished start of its early life, it re-emerges in 1962 when it was sold to a Mr Colclough of Great Missenden. In 1964 it was bought by one of the Foden family, famous for their commercial vehicle company. The documentation shows that Mr Foden subsequently had a bodywork restoration carried out by Jennings Ltd. of Sandbach, a coachbuilders that were normally used to undertake much larger projects for the Foden Company! Mr Foden then took the car on a trip to Italy, after which in 1968, he had Dennys and Gibbs completely overhaul the engine. This delightful pre-war Aston was then passed to a good friend of the Foden family, a Rolls Royce trained engineer, and it has remained in his possession until today. He has clearly cherished the car over the decades. Determined to retain as much originality as possible it’s believed the only non-Aston part is the water pump that comes from a Rolls Royce 20, fitted well prior to the documented sale in 1962! The magneto, starter and dynamo have all been serviced and the carburettors have been rebuilt. This car is fitted with its original Aston Martin gearbox (some were fitted with ENV units) that has done few miles since it was overhauled in 1968 and works perfectly. The chassis has had new king pins and bushes installed by marque specialists Ecurie Bertelli, as well as new front inner brake cables, all set up and balanced correctly. All of the instruments work as they should with the exception of the fuel gauge which gives slightly misleading readings. Two new 6v batteries have also recently been fitted along with a new set of tyres. All brightwork is in superb condition. The wings are the original items and the whole body is noticeably free from scuttle shake or rattles. The weather equipment is new and includes a full set of side screens (plus storage bag), tonneau cover and the fold flat windscreen with its removable side wind deflectors that become the aero screens. Absolutely exhilarating to drive with good brakes and tracking, nothing can quite match the sheer excitement offered by the sights and sounds of this exceptional and very rare pre-war Tourer. She also has a truly fantastic history/restoration portfolio which makes excellent reading and goes back many years.
